About the Artist
Hazel Berger

I have been shooting photographs for over 20 years. I began working on my first plaque design after being part of a Minyan in Savannah, Georgia in the Spring of 2008. I realized how important 9 other people were to one man saying kaddish on his grandmother’s Yahrziet.

As a mom, I am always looking for mitzvot to impart life lessons. I realize now that the smallest acts that take the least time, like inviting a friend into the group, and the routine mitzvot, like recycling, are most important to character building. And, the idea that you have to go somewhere to do a mitzvah is false. You can plant the tree in your own yard just like Monet did.

To my children and you I say,
 “Don’t Miss the Mitzvah!”

I hope the plaques will increase awareness of the importance of taking care of our world and ourselves. As owner of www.culturedkid.com, a children’s birthday party and camp business, I become aware of environmental concerns. You may view a selection of my photographs at Women In Focus.

About the Art
A mitzvah מצוה is a good deed, an act of service, an act of kindness, or a requirement that G-d directly asks or forbids in the Torah. Through the 613 Mitzvot, G-d commands a whole way of life.

"If I were a Rabbi, I would be encouraging every person to be consciously working on mizvot, so that the world will be a better place. If people are thinking of their next mitzvah, then they are thinking about good and not evil, but I am an artist. So I have created these mitzvah plaques and posters under the guidance of Rabbi Efraim Davidson.

My hope is that mitzvah become a household word." Hazel Berger
